Azure Service Bus Sensor

Azure Service Bus sensor allows monitoring the metrics of the cloud apps connected to the Service Bus namespace. Azure Service Bus is a messaging service on the cloud used to connect any applications, devices, and services running in the cloud to any other applications or services. As a result, it acts as a messaging backbone for applications available in the cloud or across any device.

This sensor provides insight into the number of Active Connections, Requests, or Server Errors, as well as a count of Average Active Messages and Queue Size in Bytes. It also enables monitoring of Premium Tier metrics, such as % CPU Usage and % Memory Usage. Thanks to that you can control the data transferred between different applications and services on all tiers, as well as coordinate transactional work that requires a high degree of reliability.

Requirements

You can monitor all available Service Bus Tiers but certain metrics, such as % CPU Usage and % Memory Usage are available for Premium Tier only.

Options

This sensor requires credentials for Azure subscription (Application (Client) ID, Tenant ID, and Client Secret Value).

Alerts

  • Avg. messages dead-lettered > 5 - Triggered when the average number of messages in a Queue or Topic that can't be delivered to any receiver, or messages that couldn't be processed, exceed the set threshold
  • CPU Usage > 90% - Triggered when the maximum processor utilization exceeds the set threshold
  • Memory Usage > 90% - Triggered when the maximum memory utilization exceeds the set threshold

Performance Metrics

  • Connection\Active Connections - The number of active connections on a namespace as well as on an entity in the namespace. Value for this metric is a point-in-time value
  • Connection\Avg. Closed - Average number of connections closed for Service Bus
  • Connection\Avg. Opened - Average number of connections opened for Service Bus
  • Messages\Avg. Active - Average number of messages available for receiving and processing in a Queue or Topic
  • Messages\Avg. Dead-Lettered - Average number of messages in a Queue or Topic that can't be delivered to any receiver, or messages that couldn't be processed"
  • Messages\Incoming - Total number of incoming messages for Service bus
  • Messages\Avg. In Queue - Average number of messages in a Queue or Topic
  • Messages\Outgoing - Total number of outgoing messages for Service Bus
  • Messages\Avg. Scheduled - Average number of scheduled messages in a Queue or Topic
  • Messages\Queue Size in bytes - Size of an entity (Queue or Topic) in bytes
  • Requests\Incoming - Total number of Requests for Service Bus
  • Requests\Successful - Number of successful requests made to the Service Bus
  • Requests\Throttled - Number of throttled requests due to exceeded usage
  • Requests\Server Errors - Number of requests not processed due to Service Bus' error
  • Requests\Not Processed - Number of requests not processed due to user errors
  • Resources\% CPU Usage - Maximum processor utilization (Premium Tier only)
  • Resources\% Memory Usage - Maximum memory utilization (Premium Tier only)

Reports (Data Collectors)

By default, the sensor adds a report containing Connection\Active Connections, Messages\Avg. Active, Messages\Queue Size in bytes, Request\Successful, Request\Server Errors,Request\Not Processed, Resource\% Memory Usage and Resource\% CPU Usage charts. These metrics will be collected and available as a report or through Performance Trend Viewer.
