NAKIVO Backup and Replication Sensor
The sensor integrates with NAKIVO Backup & Replication by polling its REST API. It collects repository state, backup storage usage, and job/task statistics to monitor system health and performance.
What It Does
The NAKIVO Backup and Replication Sensor enables NetCrunch to monitor the operational state of a NAKIVO Backup & Replication system. It provides:
- Real-time visibility into backup job execution (running, failed, stopped)
- Status and capacity of backup repositories
- Backup storage usage trends
- Current task queue status
This sensor is critical for ensuring that backup operations remain healthy, reliable, and within capacity.
Why It Matters
Backups are the last line of defense against data loss. Issues like failed jobs, corrupted repositories, or full storage can silently compromise recovery capabilities. This sensor helps to:
- Detect critical issues before backups fail
- Monitor resource usage trends (repository and storage)
- Alert on operational degradation (e.g., repository in invalid state)
- Maintain readiness for disaster recovery
By actively polling the NAKIVO system, NetCrunch ensures consistent visibility without relying on external triggers or agents.
How It Works
Integration Model
NetCrunch acts as a polling client, regularly sending REST API requests to the NAKIVO server. The sensor does not require any agents or NAKIVO-side configuration beyond API access.
- Protocol: HTTPS
- Port: 4443 (default)
- Authentication: Username and password required
- Data Source: NAKIVO’s REST API
Collected Metrics
-
Repository
- Health status (e.g., valid, invalid)
- Capacity (total and free)
- Free space percentage
-
Job Statistics
- Number of jobs currently running
- Number of failed jobs
- Number of stopped jobs
-
Backup Storage
- Used vs. free space
- Trend tracking (via data collectors)
-
Task Queue
- Count of pending tasks
- Execution load indicators
Default Alerts
The sensor includes key predefined alert triggers:
- Repository free space < 10%
- Some jobs failed
- Repository is in invalid state
All alert thresholds are customizable and can be extended via standard performance/event conditions in NetCrunch.
Data Collectors
To support historical reporting and analysis, the sensor enables:
- Backup Storage Report
- Task
