AWS EBS Sensor
The sensor allows monitoring of key metrics of AWS Elastic Block Store.
AWS EBS Sensor monitors Elastic Block Store in terms of performance and resources used by a single EBS instance. Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) is a high-performance block storage service designed for use with Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). It helps to keep the balance of the Burst Bucket on the save level and detect large changes in the number of write operations, which is cost-related and can be a sign of EC2 errors.
Options
To monitor AWS Elastic Block Store you will need to provide Access Key ID and Secret Access Key. The user whose credentials are entered during sensor configuration needs access rights for CloudWatch queries.
Alerts
- % Burst Bucket Balance < 10% - your Burst bucket balance is running low.
- Number of Write Operations deviated by > 20% from baseline - there was a significant change in write operations, which may be the symptom of EC2 error.
Performance Metrics
- Volume\Idle Time - Number of seconds when no read or write operations were submitted
- Volume\Queue Length - The read and write operation requests waiting to be completed
- Volume\Bytes Read - Total read bytes
- Volume\Read Operations - The total read operations
- Volume\Total Read Time - Seconds spent by all read operations that completed
- Volume\Write Bytes - Total write bytes
- Volume\Total Write Time - Seconds spent by all write operations that completed
- Volume\% Throughput - Percentage of I/O operations per second (IOPS) delivered of the total IOPS provisioned
- Volume\Consumed RW Operations - Amount of read and write operations (normalized to 256K capacity units) consumed
- Volume\Write Operations - Number of write operations
- Volume\% Burst Bucket Balance - Credits remaining in the burst bucket
Reports (Data Collectors)
By default, the sensor adds a report containing Volume\Queue Length, Volume\Bytes Read, and Volume\Write Bytes charts. These metrics will be collected and available as a report or through Performance Trend Viewer
